[VIDEO] How to Look Good on Zoom (Or Any Virtual Meeting) - Part 2
In Part 2 of our series, Melissa talks all things webcam. Pro Tip: Your internet connection matters.
Charlotte-based photographer Melissa Hollingsworth and I get questions about our webcams all the time:
“What’s the best camera to buy for Zoom calls? Do I need an external webcam?”
“My image looks horrible on Teams calls. Do I need a better camera?”
“Why is my head always chopped off when I’m on Teams?”
Melissa used 2 cameras so we could see her entire Zoom set up. And both of us demonstrated the do’s and don’ts of webcams for your Zoom calls (or any virtual meeting!)
In Part 2 of our 3-part “look good in virtual meetings” conversation, we discussed camera quality, framing, and positioning.

My 3 Favorite Camera Tips for Virtual Meetings
Position your camera well.
Use a riser or stack of books to raise your camera. This avoids the “up the nostrils” look. Also check your own image in your meeting - tilt your screen to avoid chopping off your head. For a clear visual, check your internet speed.
Sometimes your camera isn’t the problem - it’s your internet speed. There are free speed-check tools on the internet. If you have a decent webcam but your image is grainy, check your internet speed. If you have a newer computer, chances are you already have a quality camera built in.Be mindful of your background!
Especially if you’re on a sales call. Clutter and mess (while forgivable), aren’t a good look. Kids and pets, however, are permissible. And don’t leave your window cleaner behind you on a sales call, like I did. (Fun fact: I still landed the client.)
