3 Easy ways to speak with confidence
True confidence takes time and effort.
But here are some quick tips to help you rock your next presentation.
“I want to speak more confidently.”
This is one of the reasons clients hire me (I hear it on almost every call), and I’m happy to report I’ve had great success in helping my clients speak confidently.
Becoming a confident speaker is a process, and it takes practice. One of the benefits of working with a coach is the dedicated practice time.
And yes, it does take time. You won’t become a rockstar speaker in an hour, but there are some things you can do to help boost your confidence at presentation time.
Look sharp.
I don’t mean get super dressed up. Wear something you feel like a rock star in - that also meets the moment. If it’s a work presentation, wear something professional that you feel amazing in. Something more casual and fun, such as an Ignite or Pecha-Kucha presentation? Go a little more casual (if you like), but still wear something that looks nice that you feel amazing in. (You can see one of my Pecha-Kucha outfits below.)Practice, even just a little.
Whatever the reason for your presentation, run through it once, even quickly, even if you don’t want to. Especially if you don’t want to. This will get the crap out, and you’ll feel more confident after getting at least one rep in.
Athletes practice - why don’t you?Fake it ‘til you make it.
This one isn’t everyone’s favorite, but there’s truth in it. Sometimes you just have to fake that bravado. Don’t be arrogant, and don’t be a d*** about it. Just speak with Supreme Confidence - even just for a bit - and notice how you feel.
